/Meetings and Trade Shows News Articles/ - WOODBRIDGE, VA, April 19, 2008 - ACTS/Turning Points a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization along with Liletta Thompson introduces the Women Meeting Challenges - Making Change Conference on May 17th, 2008 at Garfield Senior High School to discuss Domestic Violence Awareness, Cancer Awareness, Diabetes Awareness, Financial Management and much more.
Carolyn Thomas (the Domestic Violence survivor who was shot point blank in the face by domestic partner, who also killed her mother. She has also been featured on Oprah) will be a keynote speaker. Miss Black Georgia USA 2006 and 2008 contestant Bessie Winn will be the host. WKYS 93.9 will broadcast live. Performances from Kia Calloway, Johnaa, Green Tea, Chosen the Poet and more. Other guest speakers will include Cheryl Donavon, Lady Renee, Demetra Reid, Tonya Blount and more.
Some of the supporters are McDonald's, Home Depot, Pfizer, Coldwell Bankers, Department of Health and more to be announced.
At this conference ACTS/Turning Points hopes to raise awareness regarding Domestic Violence, Teen Domestic Violence, Cancer Awareness, Diabetes Awareness, Drug Abuse. The goal is to not just raise awareness but to EMPOWER: not just women but men, children, people!
ACTS/Turning Points is a non-profit whose mission is to eliminate domestic violence by empowering victims to build lives free of violence through shelter, resources, and education, providing batterers with alternatives to violence classes, educating youth about healthy relationships, and communicating to the larger community the impact domestic violence has on its citizens.
ACTS/Turning Points offers: 24 hour crisis hotline, two domestic violence women and children shelters, court advocacy, educational support groups for women and children, a batter's intervention program, a nurturing parenting program for at risk families, supportive transitional housing, community education and awareness, and a Hispanic outreach program
